BMD 500v tool setters (tool presetters)

BMD 500v series tool setters are designed especially for setting rotary tools of machine tools.

Optional parameters of these instruments enable assembling exactly the version, which the customer needs. In all versions the same robust steel structure of the mechanical part and proven components of world manufacturers are used, ensuring the top accuracy of tool setting. Development, production, assembly and service of these instruments is carried out in Teplice, Czech Republic, an EU member state since 2004.

The instrument base is made from a solid, closed steel profile, with linear straight-line guides and bearings of X coordinate located on its upper, ground surface. The bearings are connected with the base for a vertical travel pillar in Z coordinate. This travel is executed with the same type of bearings. Moving parts of the compound slide rests, i.e. X and Z guides, are covered with 20 mm wide, maintenance-free and unlimited service life strips, which together with the cover ensure a good protection of the most delicate components of the instrument against mechanical damage.

Travels in X and Z coordinates are measured with linear optoelectronic sensors.

Both these travels are motor-driven, by brushless, directly programmable servomotors for fast movements as well as fine positioning of both slide rests. This is done through bearings rolling on smooth, ground bars. This connection eliminates any risk of injury or damage to the instrument or tool.

Minimal measured travel of vertically arranged compound slide rests of the tool setter, so called resolution, is 0.001 mm. Vertical arrangement of the slide rests is included in the instrument name with the “v” index. v .

Control panel, from which all functions of the instrument are controlled and in which the camera control unit is located, has a unique design. Fast movements and fine positioning are executed through the same knobs, which are located next to each other on the revolving panel. The panel may be moved to the most suitable position at any time.

Automatic reference checking facilitates starting the machine.

Tool setter covers are made from shaped steel-sheet plates, powder coated. Such a finish is highly resistance to a heavy-duty workshop environment, in which the tool setters are used. The covers thus confirm the character of a common machinery product of the top quality.

Geometrical parameters of every tool setter are verified by a calibration laboratory and attested with a calibration protocol. Parameters of spindle cone run-out and alignment of Z travel with a control bar inserted into the spindle head are checked. Both parameters play key roles in the accuracy and repeatability of the tool setting process. The setting process repeatability is in the case of tool setting more important than the instrument accuracy expressed for example by a position error in the axes.

BMD 500v tool setters are supplied with a table. The table is made only for this instrument to highlight positive features of its operation and accessories.

The power supply enables connecting the instrument to 110 or 240 V / 50 or 60 Hz systems.

A standard part of each instrument is a test bar. The bar is fitted with an edge with evaluation parameters of X coordinate (tool diameter) and Z (tool length).

A calibration laboratory checks these coordinates.

Calibrated test bar has two functions:

Ensuring very accurate setting of the coordinate beginning, based on real dimensions situated to the tool setting area.

Representing a test bar – primary standard, ensuring connection to national standards when assuring ISO standard functions.
