Tool fastening
Due to the vertical arrangement of the instrument, the spindle head axis is vertical and thus tools may be inserted into the spindle without fastening. The tools are pulled into the spindle by the gravitation force, since the name gravitational fastening.
Vacuum fastening is based on exhausting air from an artificially created space between the tool shank and spindle cone. In addition to enhancing the fastening repeatability, this method reliably indicates (to the operator) dirt occurrence between the tool shank and spindle cone or mechanical damage of the shank or spindle cone. Under these circumstances, the vacuum fastening is not fully functional.
